International Women’s Day 2022
International Women’s Day has been officially recognized since 1911 when “more than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination”. It was not until the 100th anniversary of the first International Women’s Day that President Barack Obama declared March “Women’s History Month” and called on “Americans to mark IWD by reflecting on ‘the extraordinary accomplishments of women’ in shaping the country’s history”.
The International Women’s Day campaign theme for 2022 is Break the Bias and asks everyone to “Imagine a gender equal world; a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination; a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive; a world where difference is valued and celebrated”.
Here locally in Ocala, Ollin Women International began celebrating International Women’s Day in 2018. This year will be our 5th celebration of IWD and we’ll be honoring women in education in partnership with the College of Central Florida. Throughout time, women educators have made significant contributions to the field of education and we believe they should be honored and celebrated every day. We are thrilled to be taking this one special day to thank the many women who have changed the ways we look at education. Watch our website for local celebration information as it is published.
The theme for IWD2022 is #BREAKTHEBIAS. Our 2022 local celebration will recognize the significant contributions of “Women in Education” in Ocala/Marion County – those women who embrace and promote the integral role that education plays for all of us of all ages and backgrounds…Educator – “a person who gives intellectual, moral, and social instructions.”
Join us now as we plan our 2022 celebration to be held on Tuesday, March 8th – 11:30 am to 1pm at the Webber Center on the campus of the College of Central Florida.
