Do you ever feel like you are moving through life with no real idea of what you want? Or you know what you want but you aren’t sure how to get the results you desire.
That is where goal setting comes into place.
Goals are the first steps towards planning for the future and help us develop the skills we need to show up in every area of our lives.
Pablo Picasso says, “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”
Like Picasso says, we must believe in our goals.
A goal without the belief that it can actually be achieved is just merely an idea. Goal setting requires a desire to get it done.
Once you are committed to the goal at hand, you must get clear on what you are working towards. The reason we want clarity in our goals is so that we can measure their progress of them and know when to celebrate.
When it comes to goals, they must be challenging yet attainable to you. They don’t have to make sense to anyone else but you. If you believe you can do it, then it is attainable.
Make sure you can break the complexity of the goal into smaller pieces so that you don’t become overwhelmed and quit trying to obtain the task at hand. You must also allow yourself the time to do the work you need to do. I believe in the philosophy of calendaring everything. If it isn’t on my calendar, I often forget to do something.
Goal setting is about how you are progressing. Are you moving forward? Is it a pace that will help you obtain your goal by your timeline or are you ahead of schedule or falling behind?
A multitude of studies has shown that setting challenging yet attainable goals increases the prospect of pursuing and fulfilling ambitions.
The setting of clear goals is more likely to close the gap between current ability and desired objectives.
Set aside some time in the last few days of this year to determine your 2023 goals and schedule the action items in your daily routine.
Best,
Manal
